DVD burning

My new machine will ONLY recognise a blank DVD if I use the rather crappy burning software that came free with the computer. Other burning software (Alcohol, Nero, Real Player, iTunes) all just hangs on...waiting for DVD or something similar. Any suggestions on how I can sort this out?

have you tried testing the burn software ? you should be able to perform a test simulation where it will prove if the media is acceptable. recently my burning drive decided to no longer recognise my usual brand of cd-r so i had to switch.
