Damp extraction

I have been told that to prevent my caravan suffering from damp whilst in store, I should put a bowl of salty water on the floor. Is this a wind up or an old wives tale ?

It's true, though you really need a saturated solution of salt water. Explanation here.

A friend simply uses a couple of bags of rock salt, slit open and laid on his caravan floor for over-wintering on a campsite.
