Wound Drain hygiene

Hello there,

My border collie managed somehow to puncture her chest to a depth of 2 inches. The vet has stitched her up and put a drain in to prevent swelling.

My question is: How do I clean it, and how do I know when to clean it?

The vet said 'when it stops draining', but it's draining slowly, and it's on her underside so it's really hard to tell! Help!

i would just use boiled cool water to clean round the wound everyday - are you meant to take her back to the vet when it stops draining to be removed - if so, he'll be able to give you more advice.

Use warm water with salt in it, and put it in a squirty bottle like you use for spraying plants, and spray around and onto the wound.
