Malta Information

I'm going on holiday to Malta soon, staying in St Paul's Bay.... I've never been before. People have told me that it's a place that you either love or hate. I'm just looking for any advice on places to go, places to eat, or anything I should look out for or do whilst we're there. We're self catering, so any tips foodwise would be great.

My Mum and Dad have just come back from Malta and they HATED it!

Although.....
My parents are the sort who want "England abroad"
My Mum even moaned that she couldn't watch Coronation Street.

And they whined that everything was "really old".

I always find Tripadvisor to be the most useful guide.

We went to malta for several years and stayed in qawra which is near the st pauls bay area and we had a good time.There are only a few areas of the island with good sandy beaches but most hotels and apartments have a pool on site.Lots of history on the island and the capital valetta is lovely .Have coffee in the square and watch the world go by.Buses go all over the island ,quite cheap fares but we hired a car to get about.roads have improved gradually but some are still rough.Food is great and you can eat out quite reasonably and plenty of supermarkets around.People either like malta or hate it but weather is usually good and make the most of the place even if you decide it is not really your kind of place.We covered so much during our stays that we decided to move on to cyprus.that is another great island.

do the day trip to Gozo its really nice but dont do the Sicily trip on the hydrofoil, the boat was an old rust bucket and the waves so strong coming back that the hydrofoil couldnt get up on its "legs", people being sick everywhere and what music did they play to calm evryone down the sound track from the Titanic film !!!!! how appropriate, definately inspired confidence, when I enquired afterwards I was told the reps know full well how rough the return crossing is but never say a word or accompany the trip.
