Anyone know this song?

I remember from my teens many country & western songs. The one I'm trying to remember, is where a person (a guy I think) picks up a girl walking down the side of the road and gives her a lift home, but when he gets there there's nobody in the car. He knocks on the door anyway and the mother opens the door and explains her daughter had been killed in an accident, and her ghost sometimes appears at the side of the road trying to get home. Does anyone know the song please?
