Not really... a compound sentence is one that contains two independant clauses joined by a conjunction (often called a co-ordinating conjunction) of some sort, including a semicolon. Actually, a good compound sentence uses the two (or more) independant clauses contrasting with each other. Example; "My friend is taller but I'm faster". Your sentence is more nearly a complex sentence...
