Many thanks everyone , think I will go with Continent . Thanks Kayakamina , realised as soon as I pressed 'submit' that I had spelt Physic wrong .
Chambers gives self-assured under confident. Continent seems to be concerned solely with the bodily functions, and self-controlled, while correct, does not immediately spring to mind in this context.
