Washing machine/Tumble Dryer combined.

When I looked in to buying a washing machine and tumble dryer combination about 5 years ago, every write up seemed to slate them, stressing that the tumble dryer side of things was useless and they broke down a lot.

Does anybody know if they have improved recently, and if so what make would you recommend? It would certainly make my utility room a lot tidier.

I have seperate dryer and washer i wouldn't buy combined because 1. They don't seem to dry so fast
2. You have to wait while clothes dry before doing next wash
3. If it breaksdown you lose the use of 2 machines

i have a washer dryer owing to lack of space in the kitchen. I hav eto admit i find it very satisfying to put dirty clothes in and get clean and dry clothes out.(especially if you are doing it the same time a s the dishwasher whereupon you'll get clean dry dishes too!) I have never had a problem with mne, but have no frame of reference seeing as i've never had a stand alone tumble dryer. I dont use it all the time (especially in the summer) as i have a gaden to dry clothes in, and airers

I was told never to buy a washer/dryer because there is one motor doing the job of two appliances, so it would last a far shorter time before breaking down. I ended up buying a small dryer because I didn't want to be without, and because I use the line aswell. It does the job perfectly, and takes up less space.
Have you thought about what you'd be washing? I find that it's extremely rare that a whole load would be suitable for the dryer anyway. There's always something that shouldn't be tumbled, and you wouldn't be able to fish that thing out so easily!!
Wasn't there also a big scare about how hot the washer/dryer doors got a few years back? (Quite a few years probably - I am an old fart after all...)

If floor space is the issue you can buy a stacking kit if you replace with a Miele washer and dryer. It also has a handy pull out shelf that you can fold on to. These appliances last for ages, should you suddenly find Miss Right and begin on that extensive breeding programme sometime soon!!! lol, you will not be lumbered with an impractical new purchase. As the dryer portion in our old machine (when we had a bijou kitchen ) could only dry half the weight if the wash capacity, not ideal in a family situation.
We have killed many a lesser washing mahine in our time but the MIeles are still going strong after five plus years which is an achievement round here.
