Recalling a cheque

Once a cheque has gone from your account to the payee's account, can you recall it, if it was obtained by deception?

I worked in bank for 17 years. You definately can't.

The place where i used to work had a cheque clear their account that we had thought we had void in the office. When we contacted the bank they refunded us straight away and got the police involved as it is theft.

Thanks everyone. This cheque was not a void cheque. I sent this payment for goods (privately) i didn't get and he wont reply to emails. I have found out since that the address the cheque was sent to was not his!

Surely deception/fraud are a matter for the Police and not your bank?

Everclean, the area that this person lives, is not a place you would send your worst enemy. My husband says its not an area you would go without a baseball bat. He said i should put it down to an expensive lesson!! This guy also has my address, i like my car/house/kids (not sure about the husband!) the way they are.
