prison officer shift pattern

Hi
I know this is on the wrong section but i know this is everyones favourite so please help. I have just been offered the job as a prison officer, and atm i dont have a clue what shift pattern im gonna be on, any other prison officers out there? what shifts are you on i.e 6 on 3 off, and the times. This would be of great help, Thanks in advance.

so you have been offered a job and you didnt ask what shifts you would be working and no one at the interview told you ? may be a lack of communication somewhere here im glad im not a prisoner.

Perhaps you should ask in the correct section - there is a good reason for having sections!

On a serious note, two things stand out when you accept a job.

1. Hours
2. Pay


I cannot believe for one moment you wasen't giving this information, but its not rocket science to expect that your being doing shifts around the 24 hour clock plus weekends

Its possible to have the standard,

1. 06:00 - 14:00
2. 14:00 - 22:00
3. 22:00 - 06:00

But it depends on how many hours aweek you are contracted to do, it might well be that you get long weekends off every 3rd week for example, but it really is best if you find out this information before excepting this work, a lot of people are not suited to shift work, especially if you have a family or your single and like your weekends partying

Probably 15 years on and 15 years off, with a slight reduction for bad behaviour and drug abuse.

Shift patterns in the Service can be a nightmare. If you work on a group of 40 staff, then it will cover a 40 week cycle, including
(E)arlies Start at 07:00, finish at lunch
(L)ates Start at lunch, finish between 20:00-21:00
(M)ain Start about 08:00, finish about 17:00
(A)ll day Start about 08:00, finish about 20:00
(N)ights Start at 20:45, finish at 07:15

This is an example, there can be many variations. If you don't like nights, you can generally swap them with someone, and you will be asked to work extra hours for no pay, but time off in lieu, (TOIL).

Whatever you work, it will balance out over the full cycle to 39 hours a week. After leaving the Service following 28 years, I wish you well, but would not swap places with you. If I can give you one piece of advice, don't think how you can change prisoners, think how they may change you!

Of course i know how much i will be getting paid and i know that its shift work over 24 hours making it a 39 hour week. I'm not gonna be told what shift pattern im on till after training once i get working in the prison, surely u must know that you dont get told straight away, its just like the police they swap and change what shift ur on all the time and the hours, so i was just curious of what other prison officer were out there on AB and what shift they are currently doing. Hope that answers ur q's.
