how many people in the UK own a tv?

A recent report issued by Ofcom, estimated that in the 4Q06 (4th quarter of 2006) there were around 60 million primary TV sets in households, this figure excludes additional second or third TV sets.

I don't understand that statistic as surely there aren't 60 million households in the UK... so it would HAVE TO include some second and third sets.

I did wonder that myself as i thought there was around a 60 million population I found on BARB the statistic to say 25.9 million households have a tv. Thanks Jenstar i thought it was just me.

You could be about right. TV licensing states that in 2006 there were around 25million licences in force in the UK. Given that they catch an average 1,000 evaders per day then this would come closer to your figure.

The report from Ofcom may have included businesses, tenants/flats, students in halls of residence, residential care and hotels/hospitals/pubs etc. Although the report does state that the 60m figure is primary sets, it may well also include secondary sets.
