How long does it take to actually conceive?
5 Answers
I mean after having sex, how long before you start to feel the effects of pregnancy ? 1 week? a month? I think what I am trying to say is how long does it take for the sperm to reach the egg?
This is turning out to be a really dumb question...but i will ask it now I ve typed it all lol!

Here's how it works: Fertilization happens in one of the fallopian tubes, which carries an egg from an ovary to the uterus. It can take up to seven days after intercourse for sperm and egg to join and become a fertilized egg. Usually, it's because the sperm gets into the fallopian tube before the egg is released.
Sperm can live in the vagina, cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes for up to five days. Only a few hundred of the 250 million healthy sperm reach the egg. It takes about two hours to make the entire journey to the egg; however, some sperm are Olympic swimmers and can reach the egg in a half an hour. If no egg is available to fertilize, the sperm swim around patiently waiting to bump into one. Because there is no chemical or physical attraction of the sperm for the egg, the sperm literally must bump into the egg.
But do me a favour make sure your sperms don't have satnav otherwise the may take the long route and may also tell you to "turn around and take the next left" if you miss a turning lmao

The other replies sound about right.
As for effects, if I remember rightly doctors count your pregnancy to start on the first day of your last period. Got that?!? True that some symptoms are akin to being 'on'. When I was 5 weeks pregnant (1 week late for my period) I had really sore nipples and needed to pee more often. A really old medical dictionary I had at the time described one sympton as having the veins in your boobs looking like the London Underground map!! Nice....
If you're wondering about a pregancy there are some really good pregnancy tests about that are pretty accurate. Some can be used on the day your due 'on'. I would recommend however to use the test first thing in the morning as the pregancy hormone has a higher consentration then.
