paypal question!

oook. i have just set up a paypal account after using ebay just with cheques for a while. what i want to know is, is it safer to just pay for something directly from my debit card or should i put money in my paypal account and use this to pay. ive heard money should not be left in the account as this can be stolen!? what do you guys think? thanks!

pay-pal is very safe, using a debit card over the net is probably not so safe. I have been using pay-pal for about four years via e-bay, and have been conned once when a person I had bought from a year earlier some how got paid for the same item again by pay-pal. I even got an e-mail from him via e-bay thanking me for the purchase again. check the pay-pal site, there may now be some sort of safe guard where they will refund your money if you have conned.

I would be very cautious to use paypal again. I bought a ps2 game through paypal from a fraudulent site. 100's of customers were conned. Paypal were notified about this site over a number of months and they didn't do anything about it. We couldn't get any money back (only a few who managed to get refunds from their credit card company). There has been alot of press recently about paypal - they have featured on BBC's Watchdog a number of times. But it's probably just your luck - alot of people use paypal without any problems at all. Ebay would probably be the only site I would use paypal but like all web sites if you're not sure if they're a reputable site or not, don't use them. Good Luck...

I've been using PayPal for 3 years and never had any security problems.

The only bad point about them is that they protect buyers much more than sellers.

If I want to pay for something I have bought on Ebay using PayPal then I normally have funds there from something I have sold. Otherwise using a credit card would be the best option as most debit cards are not covered by insurance should fraud occur and you might not get your money back.
