I adore these type of books (not entirely sure what that says about me!), anyway.....I've just read one called A Piece of Cake by Cupcake (real name!) Brown. Very good.

Dave Pelzer is a real inspiration, isn't he? I love that uncomplicated, unpresumptuous way he writes, as though he doesn't think of himself as anything special. I'd love to meet him.
Kathy O'Beirne's 'Don't Ever Tell' is the story of a girl's life in the Magdalen laundries in Ireland. It is very harrowing, but Kathy has gone on to lead an influential campaign in support of the Magdalen girls.
In a similar vein, there's 'Rock Me Gently' by Judith Kelly, who was incarcerated in a Catholic orphanage by her unmarried mother. She and the other girls were horribly beaten and chastised, and when some of the girls were clearly drowning during a beach outing, all the nuns did was to pray, leaving the girls to die in the sea. There was a big press outcry at the time apparently, and the orphanage was eventually closed.

id just like to say to B00 it doesnt say anything about you as a person cuz these types of books just give us an insight as to what goes on in the world and how people can conquer unfortunate circumstances as a lot of people cannot and also thanks a lot for you comment.

I read a Child called It and although I didn't want to read it because I just couldn't bring myself to believe that a mother could do that to their own child I had to keep going. I am glad that he has turned into the gentle man that he has become. I cant read the others as they upset me too much but I can understand why people want to know about this sort of thing. I have bought one of Torey Hayden's books so I will give that a go when I have finished what I am reading now.
Hasn't David Peltzer's brother now written a book abou the abuse that he suffered after David was taken by Social Services. Is that just as horrific?
