puting my site onto google

i have just got my site up and runnig and i would like to know how it can appaer on google. im not really sure how it works. i know that you can get it put down the right hnd side of the search but i want my site to be in te main search. do you have to register it to google or something??

Remember that there are plenty of other search engine (most of which are better than Google). To add your site to AltaVista, Alltheweb, MSN Search and Yahoo!, use the link under 'Basic submit', here:

(You need a Yahoo! ID to use that link but it only takes a few moments to sign up).
Some search engines don't allow submissions from site owners. They rely on their web crawling technology to identify links from other sites. These include the group which operates under the Lycos, Ask! and HotBot names.
