My neighbour has a 2001 Punto Go 1.2 which has only done just over 20,000 miles and has been regularly serviced. For the last 16 weeks it has been at various garages including the Fiat dealership. To date nobody has been able to correctly diagnose the problem and repair it. In simple terms , the car started to run on two cylinders and eventually cut out. The ecu was changed in the first instance, but after a few miles driving the engine cut out again.Since then, just about every part has been replaced in an attempt to eliminate it as faulty. Last week the garage rang to say that they had the car running and for my neighbour to go and collect it. He managed to drive about two miles before the car cut out. It is back at the garage. I am just wondering if any Fiat owners have had similar problems and, if so, how it was resolved. Any sensible suggestions would be very much appreciated.
the first thing i would do, would be to get a compression test carried out.
secondly, id check the plugs before i start the engine and after the engine has started running on two cylinders. check the plugs for floodinfgor oil fouling.
thirdly, if there wasnt a mechanical fault, id get the car to an electrical technician..
at a very long shot, there could be a sender or some other bit of gubbing breaking down when the engine bay gets hot !
this could possiblybe a lose / faulty wire on the ignition circuit or feed to the h.t. unit.
my neighbours car was intermitently misfiring and vauxhall couldn't find the fault. i had the engine running , moved various wires untill the fault appeared. it was a wire into the plug ( conector ) on the end of the h.t. unit.
