limescale in kettle

Is there anything i can do to get rid of it? I keep looking in the supermarket but can't find anything that is suitable for a kettle its all for washing machines etc.

Probably the best way of eliminating limescale in your electric kettle is to use a water filter jug and filter your water first. We've used one for ages and despite living in a high limescale area, our kettle remains immaculate. Alternatively you can get these little metal "scourer" like objects which you pop into your kettle. The best place to buy these is in a hardware store, or Robert Dyas perhaps if you have one near you.

Kilrock comes in 3-dose bottles. Works on kettles brilliantly. One warning - follow the instructions carefully, it's powerful stuff.

Light infestations may react to a dose of white vinegar, but I'm not sure I'd like my tea smelling of hot vinegar afterwards!

Use white vinegar - two tablespoons per pint. It will take about four hours. To prevent build up in the future, you can put a large glass marble in the kettle. It was the method used when I was small. The limescale goes on the marble instead of the kettle. I don't know the scientific reason why it works - just that it always did on our kettle.

Hi all,

A small packet of citric acid from any pharmacy or wine shop does the trick for about 50p.
