St Mary Abbotts Church, Vicarage gate, London, W8 4HW via tube
6 Answers
I am travelling from Cheltenham into London by car, to Uxbridge, where from i will take the tube.
( i have heard that the max fee for parking in Uxbridge station is 3.50?)
I need to get to The above address (St Mary's Abbotts church)
in quickest time - which station should i get off at, and what should i expect to pay for a return ticket on the day.
I need to make this journey 3 times during MAY for exams needed to be written.
Can one buy a montly ticket - would it be cheaper?
ADVICE NEEDED - THANKS

Unfortunately neither is an easy tube ride from Uxbridge - Piccadilly line to Earls Court and change to the District Line looks the simplest and will take just under an hour. (You will probably have to change at Rayners Lane as well - not many Piccadilly line trains actually start from Uxbridge)
It will cost you 4 each way, cash fare.
If you buy a Pay as you go Oyster card that will come down to 3.50 each way or (if all your journey is after 0930) 6.20 total. You'll have to pay a 3 deposit but will get it back, plus any unused cash, after your last journey.

If the address is Vicarage Gate, you require St Mary Abbots Church Hall, and not the church itself. (They're a quarter of a mile apart)
The Transport for London journey planner suggests taking the Piccadilly Line to Gloucester Road and then the Circle Line to High Street Kensington. As Dzug states, you should expect a journey time of around an hour.
From High Street Kensington station, turn right onto Kensington High Street. After 200 yards, bear left (by St Mary Abbots Church) onto Kensington Church Street. 300 yards along, Kensington Church Street curves off to the left but you should continue walking in a straight line, into Vicarage Gate. A short way along, you'll see a turning off to your right (which is still part of Vicarage Gate). The church hall is at the end of this turning.
As Dzug states, the fare is 4 each way. If you're going to morning exams, a Day Travelcard won't help you (because you'd have to pay the peak-time fare of 13.20). However, if you're travelling to an afternoon exam (so that your journey from Uxbridge will commence after 0930), you can buy a 6-zone off-peak Day Travelcard for 6.70.
Also as Dzug states, there are further minor savings to be made by purchasing an Oyster card.

Another option is to NOT park at Uxbridge but travel a couple of miles down the A40 and park at one of the stations on the Central Line.
If you look at the map below then say South Ruislip or Greenford may be better places to park, they are only a couple of miles from Uxbridge.
You can then get the Central line train direct to Notting hill Gate station.

Uxbridge station has no dedicated car park. Hillingdon Station, which is near Uxbridge and directly accessible from the A40, has a large car park, charge is 3-50.
Car parks on the Central Line are typically quite small (South Ruislip has only 41 spaces), however several stations - particularly Ruislip Gardens - are adjacent to large residential estates where you may be able to park for free.

Actually the quickest way from Hillingdon tube station to Notting Hill Gate is not by tube, but by an express coach coach service called (confusingly) The Oxford Tube. Off peak this takes 25 minutes - in peak hours at least twice as long though. I think it costs around 4 or 5 single or day return.

If you are going by bus for convenience by all means park at Hillingdon ( 3.50 ).If you decide the underground is for you drive a thousand yards on from Hillingdon Station and park at Ickenham station ( Glebe road on the rhs after the wee parade of shops ) it is a quid cheaper and almost always has spaces, we use it every day. This quid saving x3 will pay for the one off charge Uncle Ken levies when you buy an oystercard. This is the cheapest way to travel ( allegedly) on the underground system and is flexible if you
make a mistake or there is a strike etc ( you can hop on a red bus instead.) don't forget to place the card on the scanner (if you sweep across it, it is hit and miss ) or an all day travel card will set you back about 6.50 the last time I bought one.
