Please tell me what the difference is and if we have a scanner do we need a photo copier? I do monthly newsletters and so it would be useful to know this info. Thanks

Thank-you that explains it beautifully.
Jules
I have a three in one printer, scanner, copier.

It works very well - and these days are relatively cheap.

But if you have a good printer, then a cheap scanner will be ideal. Scan to pc, then print. :)
scanners are good to copy photos, pictures and nice documents, and also does colour (you need a separate printer to print though)
a copier just takes a direct rough copy in black and white and prints it.

depends on the quality you want really.
The other answers are correct, but you can get software which links them together so that a scanner-computer-printer collection will function as a photocopier. It has to be said that they're not necessarily foolproof, though. I tried a couple a few years back but they weren't perfect - the scaling was off. You may have more luck - I haven't revisited the scene since.

Thanks all for your great answers. I feel very knowledgable about the subject now lol. I may even be able to explain it to my husband!
Cheers. Jules.
