American Idol had a charity night this week to riase money to help children in poverty all over the world, including the US, but I am quite shocked at how little has so far been raised by what many believe to be is richest country on earth.According to the www.americanidol.com website, so far $60 million has been raised.Far more was raised in the UK for Children In Need. America voted 70 million times during the show, but only $5 million of the revenue made from the calls were donated to the evenings cause. I dont wish to cause offence to any Americans, but are they simply not as charitable as the UK. Dont get me wrong, $60 million will help save many, many lives, and this means that the event was an huge success, but to be honest, I would expect a little more from a poulation of 250 million people.

Simon Fuller the creator of American Idol is worth 450 million, and Simon Cowell is worth 100 million.

and Simon Cowell has the nerve to visit a centre distributing food to poor AMERICAN families !

eddiebun, I completely agree with your first sentence, perhaps these rich people can do a little more (maybe they already do), but I suppose raising awareness is a start,
but I dont quite know where you are going with your second sentence. As I said in my question, money was being raised for children in poverty around the world, INCLUDING THE US. Are you saying that because there is still poverty in the US, $60 MILLION is a good figure to raise. If this is your reasoning then I completely diisagree. There is immence wealth in the US, and whichever way you look at it, $60 miliion is a poor figure for a population of 250 million.

Simon Cowell also visited Africa, so again, I dont fully understand why you are having a dig at Cowell for visiting a US food distribution centre.
they believe charity should stay at home, its a shame we dont,we need it here, just as much as africa, but it helps keep bob geldof and bono rich.
