One of my cats (max) has not been home for two days now and he has never been gone for so long before and now i am worried. If he has been taken somewhere either injured or someone thought he is lost, who do i phone or what can i do to try and find out? The thought of him in a cage somewhere waiting to be picked up is quite upsetting and i feel ishould be doing something to find him. Any advice is much appreciated. I live in the hornchurch, essex area

I should point out that i took two cats on (Max and Paddy) because the bloke across the road was moving and didn't want to take them with him and fearing they would end up in a cats home or be seperated (they are brothers) i decided to look after them. Of course i have grown fond of them and looked after them for the last two years. Previous to this i have had no experiance of what to do in this situation. As before any advice is much appreciated.
I'm not a cat person but my nephew & his wife have several & I know that their tom cat often disapears for several days at a time. I am also told that is is quite common for people to discover that "their" cat is being shared with several other families, so dont worry too much yet as he has probably just gone visiting. I'm sure some of the cat owners who use this site have had similar experiances & will tell you that it usually ends happily.
People to call include....local PDSA, RSPCA, Cat Protection League [sp]. Give it a while and then you could try 'missing posters'. Is he chipped? If he is try ringing local vets to see if he has been bought in. But, please listen to paddywaks advice as well. Good luck!

Forgot to say....It's always worth asking your neighbours to check their sheds and garages as he may have got himself locked in some where.
Divegirl has got is spot on. I would poster straight away though, put them on telegraph poles and on notice boards at local shops etc.

Not what you want to hear I know, but last week I saw cat that had been knocked down by a car. A few days later I saw a card on a telegraph pole, and phoned the people to tell them what I had seen and gave a description of the cat. It was theirs, but at least they knew what had happened to it.

Also as Divegirl says, check with local vets, and ask people to look in sheds and garages, as many people will have cut the grass recently and may have locked him in a shed by mistake.when putting their mower away.
I can't add anything to the advice there but I do hope your cat returns safe and well soon.
