It is Volume 1 of what I think is a new series. I'm sure my son said that it is the first time one of these stories (can't remember which one - sorry) has been published in English. The ISBN number is 978-1-4052-2894-7. We bought it in Waterstones.
For my first anniversary last year, as your first anniversary is represented by paper - I compiled a photo album of our photos from when we first met, my 21st birthday, holidays together, christmas, new cars and right through to our engagement party and wedding and I left a good few pages blank for our future happy memories!!

Official Tintin merchandise (apart from books) is mainly stocked by the Tintin shop (there's one in Floral Street in Covent Garden) or Bloomsbury (small chain of gift shops). Some branches of Ottakars bookshops may also be selling off their stocks as they have been taken over by Waterstones.
However, as it's your 1st Paper Anniversary, a book would be good!
Tintin and Alph Art (ISBN 1405214481) has recently been republished (only available before now in rare limited edition which was very collectible) - it was Herge's last Tintin book which was left unfinished on his death. Or you could try Tintin in the Congo (ISBN 1405220988) which has recently been published in English for the first time (previously only available in French as it is rather "colonial" in it's view of African tribes and very un-PC in it's depiction of hunting wild game!) Neither book are rare in the sense that they are widely available now, but might not be ones he's come across before.
You can often find 1st editions etc. on ebay but Tintin collectors are often wealthy single men so prices are at a premium for rare items - a sought after item for Tintin collectors is the book of The Golden Fleece - a French film edition book not based on an original Tintin story, but hard to find in good condition!
