freezing computer

i am running home xp, the last week or so the computer freezes, has anyone got a free system to help sort this out, ps i am no expert on computers, so please nothing to complicated, thank you alun

Good time to save any important files you may have if you haven't already.

Use the system restore app to restore your system config to a date before the freezing started. Go to the Help/Support , do a search for System Restore. Its quite easy if you carefully follow the prompts in the Restore wizard. You do not loose any files. Restore enables your pc to use an earlier config that was more stable.

thanks to all that replied, i downloaded avast free, that appears to have solved it...
