Jabba the Hutt

Having an argument with work peeps, i seem to remember in the original film, the first appearance of Jabba he was a man and then when the films were digitally remastered a few years later the man was replaced with the alien looking thing and coz harrison ford orginally walked around the back of him in the film they had to make it look as tho he was standing on Jabba's tail - am im right or do i owe them an apology?!?!?

Kinda. Originally, Jabba was played by a man. Harrison Ford plays the scene interacting with the actor. At some point in the shot, Solo walks behind Jabba. Now, when they came to add the CGI blubbery version of Jabba, they realised that where Solo walks, Jabba's tail would be in the way. They therefore clumsily move Han Solo up and down to make it look at though he's walking directly over the tail.

May I might add that the scene is a totally redundant replay of the information we find out in the cantina and really irks me (although not as much as Greedo firing first, of course). Leave the damn film alone, Lucas!

it was originally a man but was not in the original movie.it was re-introduced when the re-newed versions did the rounds about 6-7 years back

I'm pretty sure that in the original comic adaptation Jabba was a humanoid. As the other guys have said, the scene was cut from the original release of the movie, but the "Special Edition" re-instated it, putting a CGI Jabba over the original actor as "Jedi" had shown Jabba as a giant slug.

The scene with Jabba in ANH was never included in the original release. It was filmed with actor Declan Mulholland playing Jabba but due to constraints of time and money, George Lucas was never able to replace the character with an alien version. In the Special Edition of 1997, Jabba was turned into a CGI version of the Hutt that appears in Return of the Jedi.
