Many thanks, logophile. He had crossed my mind (my mother lived in Austria for the first 15 years of her life) but the Swiss label threw me off track nicely. Still not sure about Guardian and 'we' either; so I don't feel too ashamed about needing help on this.

Yes, I suppose so, and thanks, GetOverIt. I do take the paper, but I resent being grouped as part of a collective when the paper supports New Labour on Iraq, the marketisation of public services and the crippling of trade unions, so I don't particularly want to be part of this 'We'; apologies for letting off steam. :)
