Could two of them be Middlesex and Rutland?
Not Middlesex - that was abolished when Greater London was created in 1964. The four were Westmoreland (which merged with Cumberland to form Cumbria), Rutland (which was absorbed into Leicestershire), Huntingdon & Peterborough (which was absorbed into Cambridgeshire) and Herefordshire (which merged with Worcestershire to form Hereford & Worcester). There were also various other changes and adjustments, e.g. Yorkshire being split into 4 counties, Sussex being split into 2, and the Metropolitan counties being formed from parts of Lancashire and Durham.
South and West Yorkshire Metropolitan District Councils, North Humberside, North Yorkshire and the one that most people miss... Cleveland.
The ones listed by Lodekka are the new ones which appeared in 1974 - also Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
