Though it isn't bad for you, I'd go for the tasteless spring water on offer at the supermarkets.I don't know if USA have the same problems though if you're boiling it for hot drinks go ahead but just use bottled water for cold drinks. Apparently, a lot of Australiens boil their water before they use it for drinking.
I drank tap water in Texas - safe to drink but tastes like a swimming pool as they chlorinate their water - It is much worse when first out of a tap so you may find it to your taste if you run the tap for a while? I would go for bottled water personally but not worry about brushing teeth, washing food in it!
it'll still be pretty warm in September, so some bottled water to carry around may be a good idea, but as spudqueen says it's fine to fill them up from the taps or drinking fountains. In restaurants they usually bring you a glass of tap water with ice in it, without being asked (and it's free unlike when they do this in Britain).
Any visits to new areas bring exposure to new dangers.
Especially tropical areas such as Florida. Your body has not developed any resistance to the foreign microbes you will meet. I would tell the same to a Floridian who was visiting your area. Bottled water is it for drinking! But food, too, can pose risk! And Air! I once had a 16-year-old female cousin who traveled to Florida from Illinois, USA. She caught a virus that was foreign to her and died within 2 weeks.

The tap water is fine. I was over there the weekend just gone and although it tastes different its fine. However it is best to chill the water so we were refilling the old water bottles and putting them in the fridge. The Disney parks all have free water fountains and the water is chilled so again we just filled up old bottles. We weren't being tight - we were just going through so much water we kept on running out! The best thing about their water tho is after a couple of showers the water is so soft I don't have to use conditioner!!
