If you want a job the only way you will get work is though an agency on contract. Its a sad fact that once people get near 60 employers wont take them on as permanent staff. Working contract will mean more flexible hours and better pay.
Sorry, I work in construction but dont know of any domestic agencys, hope the above helps.

There are any number of reasons why an employer might be rejecting you. You havent said why youre job hunting, but it may be that how you explain that is turning them off.
New ageism laws mean those interviewers would be on shaky ground legally if they could be accused of rejecting you because of your age. Perhaps you seem less qualified to a modern standard than the competition or you are looking for more money than they want to pay.
You could try shaming them in the interview (are you less interested in me because of my age?) and I would strongly recommend that you contact the interviewer after their decision for constructive feedback. Ask the questions I mention above and see what you get.
Other options to consider are starting your own business to target customers who might like a more mature plumber (like care homes, older residents etc) or find a plumber who already employs older workers and ask to help him out.
Good luck and hope this helps.
