Why is the biology and ecology of a species very important in determining approaches to the management of its exploitation?

This sounds like one of those questions on a test/exam paper that makes ones head itch.
I would say that the more you understand about the wants and needs of a species, the more you will be equiped to deal with it's management and it's exploitation.

Example, If a lake is allowed to silt up and become marshland, it will no longer support the fish stocks that you where aiming to conserve.
