cat eating habits
6 Answers
My cat is now two years old, and nuterred, but he doesn't like eating dry, hard food. He always wants the soft canned food, but i know the dry food is good for him, but he refuses to eat it. He'll only eat it if after ages of bothering me he gets no results. Is there something wrong with the dry food (bad taste) or is my cat just lazy?

I have found that giving dried food maybe 2 or 3 times a week with their normal tinned food works better. If he only likes tinned food then thats what you need to give him.
Don't worry too much about it. As long as he is eating well then you have nothing to get upset aobut.

The tinned food does seem to be a bit more instantly appealing to cats. I would get his mouth checked just to be sure he's not sticking to soft food because his mouth hurts.
Cats are notoriously clever at manipulating their owners to get what they want, but sometimes they will go for Hills, Iams or Eukanuba brands of dried food when they've refused supermarket brands...that's only what I've found.
One of my cats will only eat Dried Food and the other two like a mixture of dried and wet foods. I feed them Hills dried food which they seem to like best and which certainly suits their digestive systems. Cats will eat what they like and will hang on for ages to get their own way. Having three makes it a bit easier because they know if they don't eat the others will get it. I don't think your cat will suffer if he doesn't eat any dried food.
My dog hates dry food too and she has stronger jaws than a cat so no chewing problems-they prefer the taste of wet meat to dried, unmeatyish food. This is what I do-Put the dry food but open a can of tinned food every morning and share it with mixed dry food 3 times a day. That way you only use one can a day.
Without sounding rude, do you like and eat every thing that is put infront of you? He is not lazy he just knows what he likes, like you, and proberly eats the dried stuff it after he gets no other results because he is starving hungry! If you are determined to feed him, dry stuff try different ones, and to reassure you I have 3 cats all at the age of 14 who all have had tinned food all thier lives, so it can't be that bad!!!
I have just bought two kittens and was hoping to transfer them to dry food for my convenience and because its better for them. I tried to put a bit in thier wet food but they were not having any of it! I left them with dry food only yesterday and they had a bit, but then i worry that they are not getting enough food so i give in and give them wet food again. Looks like they have won!
