did system restore not unable to load configeration etc

Hi I did a system restore. Now when I switch the pc on it says unable to load configuration. When I try to open a word document, it says windows installer, preparing to install - then nothing, it will not open. Help please... Thanks.

Had you installed office prior to the date of the restored point? When do you get the message "unable to load configuration" , don't you have a disk for office to just reinstall from? You can still open your word documents with notepad or word pad have you tried that?

I had probs opening word docs so I uninstalled and reinstalled microsoft office 2003 complete.

Also I cannot open excel worksheets.

Other than that there might have been problems with the install, i can only suggest that you use open office, it's free and will let you do what you want to do. Maybe try uninstalling it again from add /remove programs and then try installing from the office disk application by application, so explore the disk and install each individually. Its saying now windows installer patch package does not exist??

Do a system restore to an earlier time (before you uninstalled Office). Uninstall Office again. Run Regcleaner (unless you have an alternative registry fixer). Re-install Office.
