Selling higher then original value on ebay

I am selling a shirt on Ebay which has a label on saying �6.00 (although I only paid 2). At the moment it is up to �4.00. If someone bought it for more then �6.00 would they have any valid arguement for a refund once they receive it as they will see the original price? I haven't said anything about how much it cost/is worth on the listing.

Not really because they're buying it 'as seen' and are just paying what they think it's worth. I deal in books on ebay and often sell them for over the RRP and haven't had a complaint yet; if I bought something for more than it's worth I'd just keep quiet to stop myself looking foolish. Of course to solve this problem the best thing to do would be to trim the price off the label if you can, or if it takes up most of it consider cutting it artfully so the label is attached but the 6 could be an 8.

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it's not really possible to remove the price tag but I'm pleased to hear you have had no complaints with similar experiences. I suppose that they have nothing to complain about really especially as I started bidding from 1p!

The bidder has no recourse to complain - it is an auction, and it is for them to decide the value of their bid which is independent of the true worth of the item. If they overprice their bid, more fool them for not doing their homework. A winning bid is a legal contract to complete the purchase.

Yep Kempie`s spot on, its the buyer who puts their bid on and if they decide to pay more than what the price tag says well thats their look-out.
Infact theirs a seller who must have bulk bought chainsaws that they have for sale in Aldi the other month for 80 odd quid, and he`s been knockin em out anywhere inbetween �95-�110 + �10 P+P. Good on him as well:):):)

True ebay story. A pair of "Live To Ride" motorcycle rear view mirrors, RRP approx �38, sold for �150. Shame it wasn't me selling them. You've got to love some people.

I have been the buyer in similar cases where the RRP wasn't specified and I ended up buying the item for more than the price on the tag. I am always miffed when this happens but I cannot honestly complain as it's not the seller's fault unless they have incorrectly stated the RRP or somehow given a very clear indication that they paid more than they actually did. Otherwise it's just my fault for not asking what the price was.

No of course not I have seen loads of items on e bay going for more than you can buy them in the shops for.
It seems to me that some people just seem to get into a bidding frenzy trying to be greedy and get what they think is a bargain and that is there own fault.
I myself have sold a few things on e bay second hand for more than I payed for them new and was surprized when that first happened but it does not surprize me any more.

And sorry to go back on this subject again milly, but I have just remembered a few weeks ago I bought a 18 volt hittachi (that is a fairly good make now and I am a builder)battery hammer drill in screwfix direct ( you might not have heard of them though) and it was redussed from RRP of �180 to �90 and I am in the trade and must admit it is a great drill for the price of �90 but dont think that it was worth �180 maybee about �120.
and just lateley have seen a few of them going for a buy it now price of �129 and they have sold at that price.
