University Boat Race/Grand National/FA Cup Final

A neighbour claims that in the 1940s (possibly during the War), the Boat Race took place on the same day as the Grand National and the FA Cup Final.

Can anybody please confirm and quote the results for each event?

Whilst unable to confirm this, I believe the FA Cup competition was cancelled from 1939-45 inclusive, and replaced by the Football League War Cup from 1940-45.

I asked an ederly relative about this and although there was a Grand National in 1940, he assures me that the sports events you ask about were all suspended during the war years. They were held again from 1946 onwards, so if it is the case it would have been between 1946 and 1949.

a) University Boat Race: won by Cambridge in 1939, then
in 1946 Oxford, then 1947-51 by Cambridge.
b) Grand National winner in 1940 Bogskar then
between "1941-45 not held" followed by 1946 won by
Lovely Cottage, 1947 by Caughoo, 1948 by Sheila's
Cottage, 1949 by Russian Hero, 1950 Freebooter.
c) FA Cup Final "1940-45 not held" 1946 Derby County v
Charlton Athletic, 1947 Charlton Athletic v Burnley, 1948
Manchester United v Blackpool, 1949 Wolverhampton
Wanderers v Leicester City, 1950 Arsenal v Liverpool..

I think your neighbour is wrong.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/r owing/4850586.stm gives the boat race dates and none match up with the FA Cup dates for 1946 onwards. Dates available on intranet.
