I'm pretty sure you can just bleach it all. I had a friend do it and her hair was fine.
Course you can do it all at once! It would probably be more damaging to keep getting highlights, as the highlights they put in will keep being bleached when you go back to the salon, bleach over bleach isn't good.
It is possible, tell them you want a block colour done, and go somewhere decent, don't diy!
What's your natural hair colour? If you're darker than mid-brown, then that's probably why you're being advised to go for highlights rather than an all over colour. The darker your hair, the longer the bleach needs to be left on and if it needs to be left on for more than 40 mins (as it would with dark hair), that's when you can get problems with breakage.
IF YOUR DARK HAIRED THEN THIS MAY BE TOO . IM DARK BROWN ALMOST BLACK AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING PLUS THE ADDED UNBELIEVABLE EXPENSE ADDED TOO. THEN I ASKED MY FRIENDS FRIEND WHO SAID IM TOO PALE TO GO BLOND!FECKERS. THEN I GOT A MANS OPINION AND HE SAID ANY PALE BLONDIES ARE UGLY THE ONLY WAY IT LOOKS GOOD AND REAL IS ON SOME SORT OF BAYWATCH TYPE GIRL.AAAAGH
Sounds like the salon just wants to make more cash out of you to me.
you most certainly can do it all at once.Go to a different salon...or better yet,a haircolor specialist. they have new ways of lightening that dont damage it as much. If you are doing it yourself, you will first want to bleach your hair by buying the bleach lightening kits at a BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE. dont freak when it looks orangey, cuz you must then pick an actual haircolor to put on top of this, such as a light ASH blonde color. If your hair has never been colored, then you shouldnt have too much damage.Just use hot oil treatments, and feel free to leave conditioner in your hair for as long as possible. Also, try frizz ease to smooth hair down and add shine.Highlights may be good to gradually lighten your hair, but are not the long term answer and will cost alot money in the long run. Good luck!
