Poor and bad draining soil

I have a garden that has very poor soil (90% builders rubble) which holds a lot of water. I am struggling to find and kind of plant that I can grow along the borders. I dont want to have to spend hundreds of pounds in digging the whole thing up. I just need some kind of plant that will make a pleasant looking border
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Google Bog garden plants and you'll get an idea. Though it might be advisable to add sand so you'd have more choice.

Thunderbird, thanks for the quick response. I will purchase some Roseclear this week and give it a go. I have gently, jetwashed the trunk as a quick remedy and it has removed the pest/bugs for the time being. Many Thanks. ;-)

If it helps, we have a very nasty clay soil which also holds the moisture in as it has nowhere to drain and we have put bog plants in, they love it. Our best specimen we bought last year was a Gunnera, it was huge but it all died back and I thought we had lost another one but this year it is back with vigour and is getting really big, they love water and bogginess, and can look quite startling round a pond, or grassed edge. Lillies and Hostas are good too, but watch the little slugs with the hostas.
