does anybody know:
1) how to put objects (tv, chair, bookshelf, rugs etc.) diagonally. And..
2) To make stairs with two parts- up a few then turn and go straight up?

To put items diagonally, it's a new cheat that came with the University Expansion pack so you need it for this cheat to work.

Open up the cheat box (CTRL, SHIFT + C), then type in:

boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true.

(False will turn it off).

To move an object use the "handgrab tool" and use the < and > keys to rotate. The keys are , and . on the keyboard (although some keyboards vary).
