I am seriously thinking about saving up money (will take me a few years) and going travelling... not for long.. but it's something I would love to do and I know it's best to do it while I am young and don't have any commitments ... I know everyone will still be here when I get back... I just need to think it through. I think one of the main things stopping me is my Grandad as he isn't very well and his health isn't looking to good lately and I'd hate to be somewhere else if something happened.. but I really want some time on my own.. discover myself and do some soul searching.

Has anyone here done it? And if so... was it worth is?

Wardy, you crazy cat you, I hate to point out the obvious but nipping off to watch the cricket really isn't the same as going travelling for months on end without any thought to it, any notice.. and any money!
The point I am making is just do it.

How about joingthe Royal Navy and seeing the world for free and being paid a decent wage to do it?

Bloody taxi is 1 minute late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Yeah I'm definately not a Navy girl! But thanks for the input! Lol

I don't know.. if it happens it happens.. I would love to do it but I always feel like I am missing out if I go... like I'd miss all my friends and stuff!
Hello Ruby, Go for it, you will get work as you travel, don't let the lack of money put you off, turn around twice and another year has gone, so what are you waiting for, ask your dad for a couple of hundred quid, to start you off, my niece went off two years ago and was away for 18 months,Australia, New Zealand, then Canada & USA, then back to Galapagus islands, sah is now in Costa Rica, then going back to Australia for 6 months, she has always found work, and she has done it on her own, Go Ruby,go Ruby Go. !!!! Think about seriously at least. xx
Even just doing what wardy has done is such a lovely feeling, so packing the jop in is heaven, lol. xx

Hi Ruby, I know how you feel, a few of my mates went to India for the winter and loved it. Made everyone totally jealous that they could do it on such a small budget and still have a banging time! They each took a grand on top of flights and that lasted them for 3 months with some quality chorage to boot! I'm really thinking about going to see the next world cup in south africa too, already asked for time off work, all I need to do now is save up!
hi rube, i travelled on the spur of the moment. my mate asked if i wanted to one drunken saturday night, so we did a fortnight later! we went from dover got the ferry to calais and travelled across europe and asia for 3 years. it was the best time of my life. Do it girl before you fall into the relationship trap and then before you know it you'll be 30, married,up the duff and stuck where you live FOREVER!!!!!
Hi Ruby :-)
I did the traveling bit at 18-20 yrs. I got a rucksack, 250 and a bucket flight to Istanbul. (it was 20 yrs ago now lol).
I went with Air Rumania, they got banned from England shortly afterwards for they were a dangerous airline.... losing doors mid flight hehe.....
The plane made an emergency stop in Germany first, then we just about made it to Rumania where they gave up with the plane and squished us onto a jet propelled bucket.....
12 hours later I made it to Istanbul.... still alive!!!
I was travelling on my own too......
I went to a hostel, and chilled out... meeting other travellers before we went off travelling through Turkey, there was still curfews going on and everyone had to be indoors by 9pm... guns and army patrols everywhere..... made it to Kurdistan... and generally had a heap of fun!!! it was actually looking back a dangerous time lol.....
I got back to Istanbul, made it to Yugoslavia via a coach that got taken from us at gun point!!! ending up hitching from Yugoslavia through Europe to Amsterdam, met some amazing people from a truck driver to a lovely lady that took pity on us and gave us cakes to a German guy that put us up for a night.... and the whole trip was totally insane....

Do it!!!
Hi Ruby, I see you are thinking of Italy and having lived there I travelled round it quite a bit. All the places you names are lovely and you could spend it all in Rome and never get bored, Calabria is gorgeous, Sienna is a must and Aosta is stunning!
I'm going travelling in June to Oz, NZ and Thailand. I'm just upping and leaving although must admit my bonuses for the last two years have helped toward me going!
Hi Ruby....Im 1/2 way through a 1 year trip and am typing from a beach in Bali. We are having a great time, and are both glad we saved up enough to do it properly. If you need any tips let me know....

Hi Ad,

Thanks... Bali eh? Nice!

Do you mean tips on saving?
Tips on saving is easy....set up a direct debit from your current account to an ING online account so you can't spend the money (and you get some nice interest!!)
