How can I stop our cat from howling?
6 Answers
We have two cats and one of them is very demanding with attention. So much so, he will meow at the top of his voice when he's upstairs and wants someone to come and see him. It is so loud, we have to lock him in the kitchen each night so he doesn't wake us up. We've tried ignoring him, hoping he'll realise he's not almighty, but this doesn't work. Its unfair for the other cat as he has to be locked in the kitchen aswell (although we have a cat flap so they can go outsitde).
Any ideas? He's a cool cat and is very funny, but he's very ignorant aswell!

Don't feel bad that you have to shut him out of your room at night, I have a cat that gives me the sad eyes when I kick him out at night but if I leave him in he will wake me at 3am (on the ruddy dot lol) to be let out.
Hope you get some sleep. xxx
He's not that much of a big eater (compared to the other one that won't leave the kitchen!) and even after eating he'll run upstairs and start meowing. Saying that he, does it everywhere not just upstairs.
And with a family of 5, he tends to meow for me more. This is because I lay on my bed with a laptop playing games, he comes and sits between me and laptop or on the keyboard if I let him. So when I'm not there, he sits at my bedroom doorway yelling at the top of his voice. Its so loud, we've had people who were outside ask us what the noise was as it doesn't sound like a meow.
Not sure if he has an Siamese in him. He's pure black in colour. Hes a sweetie, his name is Merlin but is far from being magic making that racket!
Cheers for your help guys, think its just gonna have to be the kitchen for him!
Neatheyc, if a Siamese is crossed with a moggy the kittens will nearly always turn out to be black - so perhaps you have a half Siamese?
As for the howling, well, i have a Burmese that does exactly the same thing and i cant find a cure for it. The only thing that seems to quieten him down a bit is to be allowed to sleep on my partners pillow - lol!
