New car

Just got my first tax reminder for it - �112 for 6 months ! How can this be? I thought new cars were more eco friendly ??? Co2 emissions....etc etc..my last car was more powerful, GTI, petrol and yet its tax was only �95 for 6 months ! I dont understand it.... :-( Not happy

Depends what type of car you have I think - mine is �63 for 6 months but then I only have a piddly little KA.

My is a StreetKA 1.6, petrol. My last car was a VW 1.6i GTI !

That looks correct. For a Streetka the co2 is 191 I believe (you can check this on your V5 log book). See the attached link which shows the current costs. This would be band f 'Over 185' - 205.00 for 12mnths or 112.75 for 6 mnths.

I was very suprised this year my 2003 clio 1.5 diesil is �35 for the year.

Donna is right. the co2 for 1.5 diesel clio is 120.

The thing is you have put the cost of road tax into perspective when you consider how much you spend on fuel and what it costs in terms or depreciation.

I checked... it does say �35.00 Norman for diesel Clio.

You should have stuck with the GOlf, however the newer car is more powerful so they must judge it on boy racer value.

Theres only really one thing you want to do with a 1.6 Ford Ka, as they are not commonly seeen, and thats be quicker than the rest, the government know this hence the hefty tax.

You could be worse, it could be a Land Rover and you'd be paying �400 lol.

my Megane is around the same and its the same size engine so who hard done by, when you whizz by me at the lights?

I too drive a 1.6 Ka Sport and have just paid over �90 for 6 months tax. Expensive.

It wasnt a Golf it was a Polo GTI - still doesnt make any sense to me....oh well, the Polo GTI was new in 2000.
