Why do people feel the need to belong?

After watching the Panorama programme on Scientology, it struck me that those who find faith of any description usually feel the need to join an organisation full of like-minded people. I have my opinions and don't need others to back me, but it seems most do and I wonder why? Is their faith alone not enough?

At the last count we had Luna on the spoons, Mani on the shoe box and rubber band, Coco with the washboard and thimble and me with the comb and paper - and boy, are we good?!!!!! Oh we're so looking forward to the ABer's ball. After that it could be the X-Factor - and after that - who knows? Today Answerbank - tomorrow the world!!

My only sense of belonging is to nature and the universal being of just being part of creation. It is faith but not within a man-made organised religion.
This is what brings me peace in my thoughts, drawing from the true wonder of all that surrounds us, unfortunately, while this faith creates wonder, the human world also has many atrocities and stories of woe that I feel also.

Luna, I feel the exactly the same about the universe, but I am totally at odds with mankind in many ways - a square peg in a round hole you might say. Try as I might I can't begin to understand man's inhumanity to man, the need for power and control, the arrogance, the dishonesty, the sheer spitefulness and unkindness to others, or the inability, or refusal, to see beyond the pettiness and selfishness of manufactured religion. Joining groups has never been for me - apart from the Loonies of course!!

By the way, did you ever get that book?

My work hours have been rearranged three times since I started three weeks ago so it's thrown all my sleeping patterns out. So far, on my list of things to do has been,

From The Ashes Of Angels by Andrew Collins(We spoke of this before Naomi) It's about the Nephilim/Watchers or giant offspring from angels.
The Mystery Of The Crystal Skulls by Chris Morton & Ceri Louise Thomas(Are there really 13 quartz skulls that act as a communicator with our cosmic ancestors?)
The Stargate Conspiracy by Lynn Picknett & Clive Prince(E.T contact,military intelligence and the Pyramids).
The Hiram Key by Christopher Knight & Robert Lomas(which sounds very similar to Dan Brown's new book but they wrote it first !) .

Mmmm ... I don't think he's a teacher or a journalist because his students or readers wouldn't understand what he's talking about so that would never do. Whatever he does I imagine it's a solitary occupation and he clearly has a love of words, so perhaps he's a lexicographer.

I was thinkin maybe barrister. But, I could see him sitting at home, authoring another book, whilst looking out over his garden occasionally.
