i have travelled to a lot of places all over the world and thought to myself "yeh, its ok"!!

but today i had to drive up to inverness (the planes didnt run to my schedule? it was 446 miles to my destination and i have got to say.......................

you scotts have got the most beautiful country i ever did see!!!!! i hope you appreciate how lucky you are!

Hello ruge, Scotland is indeed a beautiful place,but we are very lucky in britain, the lake district, peak district, dorset, cornwall, Northern ireland etc I also live in a beautiful place, North Wales, very similar to Scotland, but smaller, come over for a weekend,ruge i will buy you a pint.

Yes indeed, i did have a whistle stop tour of Scotland and travelled many enjoyable miles over varying terrains and hills and valleys. I particularly love the clouds when they cling to the hills and drif across the roads as it's so high up there.

The air is fresher too and water is pure.

I travelled up to Scotland last October for a wedding. I wasn't relishing the idea at all. Scotland in October? it is bound to be wet, windy & dreary.

How wrong was I? VERY wrong!!!!

I live in West Sussex..surrounded by the South Downs. That is lovely. I have lived in Lancashire, right near the Pennines..that was also gorgeous. But nothing could beat the air quality and scenery which awaited me in Scotland..and I didn't even get that far into the country.

For a bit of escapism, I would recommend the Applecross peninsula (drive down past Loch Ness from Inverness). You can get B&B at the Applecross Inn and enjoy a lovely warm stay in a remote part of the Western Highlands � with plenty of Scotch to choose from behind the bar! The landlord can assess your taste buds according to your food and drink preferences and recommend the perfect tipple to warm you up after a long day in the mountains. And the food is good too.

I have been with the wife many times and spotted wild stag, eagles and otters (depends on time of year). It is remote and fairly inaccessible in winter, but ideal for a quiet romantic retreat if wildlife and remote scenery appeals. This is one of our favourite places, so keep it to yourselves!

I was in Scotland at the beginning of May. The weather was beautiful and warm. I'm lucky enough to get back once or twice a year to visit my parents. They live within walking distance (half an hour) of Loch Lomond. The first thing I do when I get off the plane is take a deep breath of fresh clear air. The view from Balloch to the north takes some beating!

It's funny, but when I'm here I talk about going home, but when I'm there I talk about going home too!

Ray, I have spent a few days in North Wales, absolutely fantastic, I loved every minute of it!! I will return someday soon!! but I also consider myself to be very lucky to live in North Devon, we also have some spectacular scenery and pubs!!!

well thank you! i am in central scotland and its very pretty , i think. lots of hills and lovely walks - not that i do much walking but when the mood takes me , i do!!
