kitchen tap won't stop running?!

I have a mixer tap. Was using hot tap only and when I turned it off, the water kept going. Is it as simple as changing the washer or do I have to change the whole expensive tap unit? Plumbing advice gratefully received. Thanks.

You just need to replace the washer!!

The rubber washer has probably cracked. The solution is to turn off the water at the mains, carefully remove the tap using a screwdriver and a spanner and replace the washer. Hold firmly on to the tap as you loosen the nut, do not allow it to rotate.

Teddio How do you know that Agnes has a combination boiler ? hot water cylinder systems need the cold water from loft storage tank feed valve to the cylinder usually in the airing cupboard turning off usually a gate valve and usually seized up so WD spray and TLC should do the trick that's if you have that system then you can deal with the hot tap hth Tez
