I saw a really good film on I think B.B.C.4 about a Jewish Italian family who were interred and sent to a concentration camp, the film focussed on the father and his attempts to shield his son from the horror of it all, it was in Italian and had English subtitles. I think it was called "Life Is Sweet" but I can't seem to be able to find it. Help!
Is there an alternative ending? I've only seen the version that was on tele, where he was reunited on the roadside etc. I'm trying not to give too much away in case other readers have'nt seen this film. If the original has a different ending is it available with subtitles?
The version I saw in the US has a sad ending with the death of the father in the camp. I would hapily watch the funny first half of the movie over and over, but the second half is sooooo sad. Did the british television version have everyone live happily ever after?
That's the version I saw. It is sad, but it makes a change to see a film about a father who loves his son, in fact I can't think of one serious film were that's the case. I can think of others that are the opposite like "This Boy's Life" and "Angela's Ashes" and so on.
