Inner city Academies
6 Answers
This week I saw an item on the news concerning City Academies. The one featured was in North London, a lovely modern glass structure, and a place any child would be most privileged to be educated at.
The reporter stated that these Academies were springing up all over the countries inner cities. What was very noticeable was the fact that the majority of pupils at this Academy were not white, so in this instant it was clear that what have become known as the ethnic minority, were not the minority at this Academy, it was the Whites who were in the minority.
It was also reported that given a choice, will these Academies be shunned by the White middle classes, whom perhaps would rather their children be educated in a crumbling Victorian built Comprehensive school, rather than be taught in these ultra modern Academies where the majority of pupils first language may not necessary be English?
Is this racism or just trying to give your child the best education available?

You say in para 1 that the place is very children would be privileged to be educated and in your last para you say taking your children to another school (where the children are predominantly white) is giving them the best education. make up your mind which gives good education the academy which is brand new but full of ethnic minorities or the victorian establishment which is new and full of ethnics.
How does it feel to have your taxes spend on these academies then aog. Damn you must be jumping with rage to see all those ethnics sat at modern computers with shiny glass walls.

I couldn't care less about the look of the building, if I felt my children were getting the best education that they could possibly get. That could be in a crumbling victorian building (which, incidentally my children are at present!) or a shiny, glass faced, modern sanctuary!
If my children were being educated, as a minority, against a backdrop of non-first language pupils, then I would have firstly endeavoured to find out whether the school was any good, as I would if it were full 'of pure' Anglo-saxons! ie, before I sent them there.
However, I appreciate that I have not had this dilema as I live in an area where 99% are British born, so I cannot properly understand the dynamics and strength of feeling of some.
