Tul Bahadur Pun, who fought for us for 18 years and was decorated by Mountbatten in 1944, can't afford medical treatment in his home country and would like to come to Britain for treatment on the NHS.

He has been refused as he has "failed to demonstrate strong ties with the UK".

In the meantime we have Eastern Europeans turning up on our doorstep in their thousands who have immediate access to free treatment on the NHS.

Can somebody please explain to how this is right?

Just another prime example of the way our troops past and present are and have been treated by our uncaring and totally incapable politicians.

Who Involvie them in un-winnable wars.
Create ridiculous and utterly dangerous rules of engagement.
Provide them with inferior equipment.
Give them second rate medical treatment and accommodation, when they are returned to the UK injured, and little if any aftercare when they are later invalided out.

And when they have made the ultimate sacrifice, they will not only take the married quarters house off the wife and children, but once again the bereaved family will receive little if any help.

And yet as it as been said many, many times, when it comes to immigrants legal or illegal, money and help is showered upon them. Is it any wonder racism tends to rear it's ugly head?

Just a little bit more, In the Far East, 10th Gurka was attached to my regiment, (even had one offer to kill someone for me, that wasn't taken up) that was the early seventies, I made some good friends, some of which I am still in touch with.

Their pride at serving Britain was enormous, and I think any Ghurka, who served with the british forces, past and present, should be qualified to recieve medical treatment in this country.
There is a petition to support Gurkas here:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/gurkhas-rights/

There are currently over 10,000 signatures - should be alot more!!

and more information about Mr. Pun and the contributions of all the Gurkas here:

webbo3 -your petition isn't there yet but my name will be as soon as it's sorted. My own dad sailed the world three times 'round during WW2 loading guns on a batleship. I know he'd be absolutely livid if he were alive today to hear of the disgusting treatment given to this man. Any service man would agree, the bravery and dedication which Gurkhas displayed during WW2 was 2nd. to none! And to this day serves as a bench mark to any regiment, SAS included. I don't think any government has the right to act on our behalf in pouring shame on us in this way! It's DISGUSTING!
I just cannot understand it. If, as is so often the case, the vast majority see sense in something why is it that the people who are in a position to impliment such sense just dont get it. It is so obvious to us mere mortals so who are these people making these decisions? Surely the excuse cant always be 'thats the rules'. Where is the human side. You in authority - change these stupid things that rile normal thinking people.

They are the stupid things, and it is about time we changed them, rabbitygirl, (one of the normal thinking people)
Have just heard that he will be allowed to come here-let's hope the petition worked.
