Mr Jules has recently fitted a new toilet seat, but this one won't stay up, he says he has tried adjusting it, but nothing works and it's no big deal (obviously he and teenage son don't lift seat then!). I have put up with it (if you excuse the pun) for a while now and whilst cleaning the toilet this morning, I tried adjusting the bolt things underneath which didn't cure the problem, will adjusting the screws which attach the lid to the seat or the ones attaching the seat to the bar at the back help at all? as I don't really want to fiddle with these if they aren't the problem. The seat we had previously stayed up so it's not the way the toilet has been fitted.

the seat needs moving forward. sometimes a problem if it is already forward as far as poss. it means that the toilet pan is too near the cistern( which I assume is low level and the seat leans against it). if this is the case, the only answer is to take the seat off and alter the screw holes underneath and refix the hinge fitting by an inch or two or get a big funnel.

Take the seat off and use the other fixing holes, that will move the seat forward a bit!!
Take the toilet seat rubbers off underneath the seat, this will work, trust me, my mate removed them when mine was doing the same thing after a few beers....

I have taken the toilet seat off and used the nearer of the two holes, but it still isn't staying up. I have also removed the plastic discs as these are not fitting very well and this hasn't helped either. I am going sooooo mad over this, anymore suggestions anyone please?

just to let you know we have know sorted the problem. I was showing Mr Jules what I had done and we then noticed that the chrome plates that fix it to the pan, looked odd as if they were around the wrong way, we turned them around and hey presto the seat now stays up,although they still don't use it!
