VH1 recently aired a special tv's illest minority moments. there was a song playing in the backround it was a dance song with an oriental disco sound. I remember hearing it in the late 70's early 80's. I am lost don't know the name or artist. maybe someone can help solve this mystery for me.....

Well, I'll start the suggestions with

Hong Kong Garden - Souxie & The Banshees
Japanese Boy - Aneka
... listen to Siouxie here.
...and I will spell her name correctly, even if it kills me! - Siouxsie

it kind of sounds like midnight express. it sounds like that old studio 54 music. tras europe express type music
Georgio Moroder might be a start in that case but i dont recall any of his tracks having an 'oriental' sound.
There are so many obsure disco tracks out there (but you say youve heard it before - so it cant be that obscure!)
The start of Don't Walk Away by the Four Tops has a very brief moment that may be it. If not, more on an Arabian theme is "Open Sesame" by Kool & the Gang. Nights Over Egypt by the Jones Girls. Are there any lyrics that you can recall or is it instrumental?
Could it be Yellow Magic Orchestra? Its just you mentioned Trans Europe Express which is electronic? I am very curious myself now! Its not hip hop at all ? Maybe early Bambaata stuff?
Question Author
it is totally instrumental, it's not Bambaata. it's totally not hip hop. i remeber in a vision from my childhood the 12" being a clear yellow record. i want to say that the title may have included space, ufo, but not even 40% sure that is close.
Its sounding more and more like Yellow Magic Orchestra.
The timing is right, instrumental, bit disco-ey,oriental, yellow vinyl..?

Forgot to say they did a track called 'Cosmic Surfing' aswell which fits into your space thing.
