Has anyone had any experiences with Optimax laser eye surgery? Good or bad welcome.

Would love laser eye surgery but worried. Kept some notes from Sunday Times article 13 May 07. Interview with Dan Reinstein Prof of Opthalmology at LondonVision Clinic. In brief he has helped develop device called Artemis Scanner. This uses VHF ultrasound giving measurement of internal layers of cornea to within 1,000 of mm and 3D. V good results, painless, 4 mins each eye. Immediate change and by next morn almost all can see clearly. 12K ops done but charge at this clinic is �4,200 - dont know whether each or both eyes. V low complication rates. One day ............!

I don't like this 'very low complication rate' stuff. That means someone gets complications.

I would love to have my eyes done as I am very long sighted, but even if I won the lottery I don't think I would dare.

I know quite a few people who have had it done, think it was the LASIK one,
I would so love to have it done and funny enough I thought about it again this morning, when Mr sunflower said look at the carpet here (while I was in bath) and I reminded him I couldnt see!!
The place I was looking at was in baker street but I also here that boots are very good too.
One friend had it done when it first came out oh about 18 years ago and he doesnt seem to have any problems at all, however a friend of a friend has it done and had really bad night blindnes/glare.

I had this done around 2 years ago I had one eye done at a time and boy was I glad it was only one at a time,as for 3 days afterwoods it was agony, but having saying that once they settled down properly it was the best thing I ever had done and the cost was �800 with a years interest free credit.
But for the life of me cannot remember what company done it,
Just one more thing to ad just because it was extremmely painfull for me it affects different people different ways some people only have a minor discomfort for a few days.
And the operation takes about a minute and is totaly painless.

Sorry said that wrong, the op is tottaly painless until about half hour later when the anesthetic wears of.

Thanks for answers guys. I have been offered a job as clinic nurse, and I am really not sure what to do. Just wanted any info at all about procedures or staff. I have no proper experience in this area (shocked I was offered the position!) so it is hard to gain insight without hearing from 'real' people about their experiences. It is also quite intensive training so wouldnt want to go through all that and end up hating the job. I have been at uni for the past year studying something unrelated (taking time out for personal reasons) so Im quite nervous, although Im sure I will be fine.

Hi there only me again, have just realised that it was optimax that done it and they were very good and are a repuitall (sorry spelling) company.
I actually got mine of e bay as they advertise on there under the name russelambrose or just type in eye surgery, I have just looked and its still �800, if you read their feedback as well it might re-assure you a bit as well.
Hope I have been of some help here.

I know mine's a bit late but I'd just like to add that I had laser surgery with Optimax and they were fantastic! Mine was a few years ago when they did PRK - they gave me all the facts but didn't try to persuade me to go through with the procedure (I was scared stiff). My only critcism is that after 8 years of better than 20/20 vision, I have to wear specs again - this sometimes happens but I don't think enough info. is given about this - most people think the procedure will last forever with the exception of maybe needing reading glasses when they get older (I need glasses for driving, to see long distance). Having said that, Optimax have said if I ever wanted the procedure done again (this time it would be Lasik or Lasek) I could have it half price! So for anyone reading who wants laser surgery - go ahead but accept that it may only last a few years or you could be disappointed!
