Are you happy with your name?

My real name is Kerris and I am so thankful that my parents chose this name for me. I love it! It is unusual where I live (although common in Wales and spelt Cerys) and lots of people remark on it! My husband, by comparison, is called Michael Jackson and has had the p*** taken out of him for as long as he can remember. It has changed who he is, as he has had to live with the remarks all his life! Top marks to Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce though....Mike was on Popmaster and Ken never uttered a thing about his name!
How do other ABers feel about their names? Have they been a positive in their lives or do people make a prior judgement, before they've even met them?

My mum put her foot down and said definitely not - maybe Joanna, "and that's bad enough" (so she said, apparently!), so that's me, Joanna! There were no others at any school I went to, so I was the only one. I HATE being called Joanne - I think it's a whole different name, and it's not mine!!
I don't think you actually have to bother with deed polls. If you don't like your name just call yourself something else. (Middle name, different spelling, something completely different, whatever.) Then just tell other people you've done it (which you would have to do if you'd gone the deed poll route anyway). As long as you're not trying to impersonate someone else, there's no legal problem. Deed polls are needed for changing birth certificates/passports etc, I think, but if you don't mind them staying in your birth name, then just tell people 'I'm fed up with Mildred, I've changed my name to Kylie'.
The woman upstairs from me gets mail in about 12 different names. Maiden name, married name, but also a variety of her (ex-)husband's first, middle and last names (he was Spanish, so different ones get used), plus various hyphenated versions of his and her own. God knows what will happen if she marries her current man. But it doesn't bother her.
