It's an old book, so some of the 'facts' aren't based on scientific observation - some of the stuff reported is based on ancient greek stories and mediaeval sources which may be inaccurate. However, I've seen a modern book on much the same subject with full colour pics, and there are preserved samples in medical museums of acephalic foetuses and many other things mentioned - so yes, by and large, it IS true!
